Syrah

26631 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.
More information on Syrah
Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2002 Syrah
Santa Cruz Mountains

This wine has rich layers of fruit, including blackberry, raspberry, and plum. Behind this fruit are complexities of bittersweet chocolate and Rhône-like spiciness. We feel this w ...moreine has the depth, structure and acidity to age very well for a decade or more. Fortunately the wine shows well now too, especially if you open it an hour or two before serving. This is a deeply fruity, spicy wine to enjoy with hearty fare anytime.

2004 Syrah
Sonoma Coast

Two vineyards give distinctive characteristics to the final blend that synergistically meld into a complexity, depth, and richness that is unusual for Syrah. Hummingbird Hill fruit ...more provides ripe blackberry flavor and a viscous mouth feel, while Clary Ranch Vineyard fruit provides low pH (3.39), white pepper, a blueberry component and overall finesse. Elements of this wine remind us of the cold northern Rhône region of France, yet it has a fullness and elegance that says California. This duplicity is what makes wines from the Sonoma Coast so unique.

2003 Terroir Select Syrah
Mendocino

The Stonehedge 2003 Terroir Select Syrah is producted exclusively from grapes grown in the famed "EaglePoint Ranch" Vineyard in Mendocino County.

EaglePoint ...moreRanch's elevation is between 1800 and 2000 feet, so this wine is considereda Mountain Syrah. This vineyard is a low yield vineyard, yielding no more than 3-4 tons per acre.

Due to its high elevation, the fruit doesn't ripen until late October. The yeast used to make this wine is called "Syrah Yeast" and it is an isolate from Norther Rhone.

This wine is crushed and cold soaked for 2-3 days on skins, before inoculation. The primary fermentation was completed in 14 days, then racked and moved to small barrels. This wine has aging potential of 15 years.

2004 Syrah
Contra Costa County

The 2004 vintage granted us an opportunity to separate prime lots of our estate Syrah into two bottlings. The larger piece of the harvest made its way to our "Celebration Red". The ...more smaller barrel lots are found here in our freshman release of Tamayo Syrah.

This wine displays bright red fruit while the influence of sweet French and American Oak vanilla playfully intermingles with our signature cocoa dust nuance. On the palate, this red favors finesse over power by offering bramble berry fruit impressions framed by white peppercorn and Asian spices. Once again this estate vineyard favors offering wines that pair well with grilled entrees and full flavored cuisines.
