Syrah

26052 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2005 Syrah
Mencarini Vineyards - Lodi

This is our first Syrah coming out of our own Mencarini Family Vineyards, and a proud completion for Abundance Vineyards.

The deep garnet color of this wine is typic ...moreal of most Syrahs, however the plum and oak nose of this wine set it apart from its competition.

Our 2005 Syrah has rich plum flavors balanced with ample tannins and oak. The long, fruity finish of this wine proves why it is a perfect example of Syrah, rich in flavor with a robust yet balanced structure.

Enjoy this wine with rich meat dishes, wild game, and anything in a heavy sauce.

On the palate, flavors of blueberry and blackberry are exhibited on the entry, while savory, smoked bacon is found on the mid-palate. This wine is aged for 16 months in new French and American oak, which adds vanilla and a hint of pepper to the fruit characters. Dark chocolate flavors linger on the finish.

Alexander Valley, California

Eighty miles north of San Francisco, the Alexander Valley is considered a warm winegrowing area, but with a crucial difference: in the evenings cooling winds flow into the valley t ...morehrough the Healdsburg Gap, giving the grapes a respite from the day's sun and concentrating their acidity and flavors. The Alexander Valley Vineyards Syrah takes full advantage of these conditions; this full-bodied wine has lots of blackberry, boysenberry, and black pepper aromas, while its light tannins and good acidity makes it a great food wine.

2003 Alexander Valley Syrah

The allure of Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley has captured our winemaking interest and enticed us to purchase from an exquisite boutique Syrah vineyard in the town of Asti. The ...moregently rolling hills and the warm, long days in the northern Alexander Valley allow the three different clones of Syrah planted on this ranch to mature to optimum ripeness. The result is an inky-dark, voluptuous wine of uncommon depth and character. This wine matured in a blend of French and American oak for eighteen months and was released in March 2005. Flavors of ripe plum, dusty briar berries, and a truffle-like note make this intriguing Syrah a wine to look forward to.

In 2006 the Syrah was fermented with 50% whole cluster and 50% destemmed fruit. The clones at Rosella’s are 877 and Bien Nacido and we used one half ton of each. From the warm June and July in 2006, the Syrah vines got a head start on ripening, even though the fall was anything but warm. This is a wine that will need at least 3 years in the cellar to begin to open and show off its ripe blackberry and pepper characteristics, although 24 hours in a decanter can give you a sneak preview of the wine.
