Syrah

26596 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.
More information on Syrah
Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2004 Rodney's Vineyard Syrah

The 2004 vintage has the trademark complexity of smoky, spicy, earthy notes along with dialed-up, ripe dark fruit flavors. 2005 Livermore Valley Syrah
Madden Ranch

We are very excited about the Syrah grapes from John Madden's Livermore Valley vineyard. John and Peggy are fellow ABC sports commentators, and during a lunch in New York City, Joh ...moren learned we wanted to produce Syrah. He graciously offered us grapes from his family vineyard and we were happy to accept!

Madden Ranch has 20 acres of Concannon clone Syrah—one of the oldest Syrah clones in California—all on 5BB rootstock.

Grapes were harvested on October 5, 2005 and were taken to our winery where a 3 day cold soak was followed by yeast inoculation. The wine was aged in French oak for 14 months before bottling.

2007 Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah
Black Ridge Vineyard

These grapes come from a carefully tended hillside vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Los Gatos. The wine was barrel aged in French oak for 15 months to provide additional ...morestructure and balance. This is an excellent example of what a coastal climate Syrah should be.

“The 2007 Black Ridge Vineyard Syrah exhibits intriguing aromas of blackberry and wild black cherries with layered notes of spice, chocolate, coffee and caramel. On the palate the wine shows its vibrant core of blackberry and raspberry that expand with well-proportioned flavors of molasses, nutmeg, and a touch of earthiness and French oak. The wine’s firm, ripe tannins and juicy acidity will allow it to evolve and age graciously for many years.â€â€”GJ

“From the deeply purple 2007 Madden Ranch Syrah aromas of blackberries and freshly roasted coffee arise, with tempting hints of caramel and molasses. Once tasted, the wine releases is flavors of ripe black fruit, dark chocolate and roasted meats with cracked black pepper, and a bit of clove and toasty oak. 2000 Syrah
California

GAN EDEN's 2000 Syrah is a massive wine, flavorful and balanced, with a "kick on it like a mule". Because it doesn't really exhibit its alcohol in the typical manner of hotness or ...moresolvent-like quality, one might be tempted to drink more than optimal. There's just so much flavor, the wine is just so seductive, that one might not be able to control himself. You can't go wrong drinking this as an accompaniment to red meats and game. However, if you like smoking cigars, you might also find a glass of this with your favorite cigars to be a highly rewarding experience.

Our 2003 Laraine Syrah is ready to release! This is our second Syrah release from Gerber Vineyards. Syrah is the most widely planted red varietal in the Rhone region of southern Fr ...moreance and also known as Shiraz in Australia. It grows best in warm to hot regions and produces a wide range of stylish wines which can be rich and syrupy in texture, to wines which are ripe, spicy and delicate.

This young Syrah has the aroma of fresh berries and the characters of toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine is full and rich with flavors of cherries, raspberries, cassis and cinnamon.

Dry Creek Valley

The Handley Vineyard Syrah is rich and complex. Much of this complexity is due to the fact that it is made from two Syrah clones from our Dry Creek Valley vineyard. Clone 877 provi ...moredes dark raspberry and chocolate notes, and clone 470 contributes much of the structure and tannins. The wine offers aromas of rose and licorice. The licorice notes continue on the front of the palate, moving into strawberries and chocolate through the long textured finish.

2005 Syrah
Redwood Valley, Kazmet Vineyard

Kazmet Vineyard, farmed by Leila Kazimi and Neal Mettler, lies in the western foothills of Redwood Valley. This small valley (covering about 35 square miles), was first settled and ...more planted by Italian immigrants in the 1850’s, but did not gain official status as an appellation until1997. The Syrah vines in Kazmet Vineyard are beautiful head-trained specimens, planted about nine years ago. California coastal ranges protect the vineyard from much of the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, allowing Syrah grapes to come to full ripeness.

Reminiscent of a Rhone style Syrah, this wine displays characteristics of bright red berry fruit with underlying blackberry and blueberry intensity, enhanced by a touch of tobacco.
