Syrah

26604 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2005 Syrah
Napa Valley

Vintage 2005 provided some early hurdles but with attention to detail in the vineyards and with patience to hold harvest until the late season warmth, the vintage actually provided ...more the platform for spectacular wines. A cool, late and somewhat wet spring slowed the start of the growing season and the even and relatively moderate summer conditions pointed to a late harvest. Serious crop thinning and canopy management of the excess vigor was therefore imperative to obtain the desired concentration and ripeness levels. These timely actions early on coupled with excellent late season warmth allowed the slow and steady ripening that we love, creating optimum concentration of pigment, tannin, flavor, and Syrah varietal expression.

We've never made a Syrah this beautiful in every way, from the color to the amazing finish. It's gloriously deep and dark, and tantalizes your nose with a wealth of intriguing arom ...moreas. You might find a ham and Swiss sandwich in there, plus olives, sweet sandalwood, and toasted pumpernicker bread. The white pepper is most amazing, and continues onto the palate, along with delectable flavors of salami, ollalieberry and blueberry jam. On the back end, tart goosebery and ginger really spice up the finish, which doesn't quit easily. This is one precocious wine that evolves in the glass and never ceases to amaze. 2004 Syrah-Cabernet
Santa Ynez Valley

Our vineyard location allows us to grow a variety of grapes that welcome plenty of summer sunshine and warm, lazy days. We are fortunate that in addition to Bordeaux varietals that ...more we are known for, the grapes traditionally grown in France's Rhone Valley also feel at home here. That makes it possible to create wines of more complexity than we could with just one type or the other. Our winemaker knows there's a certain magic that occurs when the lively flavors of syrah meet rich earthy cabernet. Syrah is full of bright spicy berry flavor and a 43% infusion of cabernet adds a rich undertone of dusty plum and dried leaves.

The exciting flavors of 2004 Buttonwood Syrah-Cabernet will pair perfectly with a pork tenderloin coated with minced garlic and Herbs d' Provence and oven-braised with chunks of potato, carrot, parsnip and sweet potato.

2004 Syrah
Humbodlt County

This 2004 Humboldt County Syrah is a single-block selection which was picked on October 14th. Cold fruit was destemmed into small one-tonfermenters and punched down three times a d ...moreay until the wine achieved dryness. A variety of different strains of yeast were employed in order to attain as much complexity as possible. The wine was pressed and hand-bucketed into 2-year-old Rouseau, French oak barrels. The wine remained on the lees until the following spring when it was gently racked and a small amount of new Hungarian oak was utilized to finish the wine. After two years of barrel age, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered -- as are all of our efforts.

Notes of fresh ground coffee, kirsch, mulberry, dark red cherry, game, and sassafras lead into a spicy, dark red-fruited, lush mid-palette, with a smooth texture, and ripe tannins. This wine is rich and full flavored, and shows the spicy, leathery, gamy qualities that make Syrah such an intriguing varietal.

Humbodlt County

This is our first release of this particular designation. Named after our son, the 2004 Reed’s Syrah has distinctive character. Its dense red fruit and spice is reminiscent of fi ...morene Grenache. We selected the two barrels which best exemplified these special qualities.

The color is beautiful deep, electric, garnet red. The seductive nose on this Syrah displays ripe boysenberry, kirsh, and white pepper. Red-fruitedflavors of dense black raspberry, pomegranate, cranberry and mulberry on the mid-palette are pure and well balanced with a long finish of ground coffee and spices. This single block, two-barrel selection, is firm and has a nice grip from substantial tannins which add structure and richness to this amazingly distinctive wine.
