Stonehedge Winery Syrah |
2003 Terroir Select Syrah Mendocino
The Stonehedge 2003 Terroir Select Syrah is producted exclusively from grapes grown in the famed "EaglePoint Ranch" Vineyard in Mendocino County.
EaglePoint Ranch's elevation is between 1800 and 2000 feet, so this wine is considereda Mountain Syrah. This vineyard is a low yield vineyard, yielding no more than 3-4 tons per acre.
Due to its high elevation, the fruit doesn't ripen until late October. The yeast used to make this wine is called "Syrah Yeast" and it is an isolate from Norther Rhone.
This wine is crushed and cold soaked for 2-3 days on skins, before inoculation. The primary fermentation was completed in 14 days, then racked and moved to small barrels. This wine has aging potential of 15 years. |
