Syrah

26271 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2006 Syrah
Alder Springs Vineyard, Mendocino County

The 2006 seems to be a bit more generous on the palate than the previous two vintages from this vineyard. Once again this wine is not about power; its beauty is in its finesse and ...moredepth of concentration without coming across as overbearing. A cross between the luscious 2003 and sexy 2002, this wine is uncharacteristic of the 2006 growing season at this early point in time.

2004 Syrah
Richards Family Vineyard, Sonoma Valley

Planted on a hillside overlooking the Sonoma Valley to the east and Sonoma Mountain to the south, this 3.5 acre vineyard is covered in a series of Sonoma volcanic soils amongst out ...morecroppings of bedrock as large as Volkswagens. This former Lavender farm was replanted to Syrah in the late 90's. Remnants of the Lavender farm exist as a purple flowered perimeter to the vineyard and a ½ acre block alongside the Syrah. The lavender is harvested in mid to late summer and sold to Williams-Sonoma for fireplace starter bundles. The Syrah is farmed to our meticulous standards and is typically one of the last vineyards harvested of all of our sites. The wine is medium to full bodied, outrageously perfumed, silky and sexy. Not all about power, this wine reminds us of a gorgeous, classically vinified Cote Rotie. At this point barrels of this wine are divided between Cuvee's Christine, Keltie and Moriah. All three of these wines benefit from the outrageous perfume that this wine offers. Bottled on it's own it is true exotica! This wine was fermented 100% whole cluster and aged in a combination of new & used French Oak barrels for 36 months without even a single racking. Throw a rack of Lamb on

2003 Laraine Syrah

Our 2003 Laraine Syrah is ready to release! This is our second Syrah release from Gerber Vineyards. Syrah is the most widely planted red varietal in the Rhone region of southern Fr ...moreance and also known as Shiraz in Australia. It grows best in warm to hot regions and produces a wide range of stylish wines which can be rich and syrupy in texture, to wines which are ripe, spicy and delicate.

This young Syrah has the aroma of fresh berries and the characters of toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine is full and rich with flavors of cherries, raspberries, cassis and cinnamon.

2005 Petite Sirah
Calaveras County

This Petite Sirah comes from the Salt Springs valley in Calaveras. It is an early ripener with great natural tannin structure that does not inhibit the darker ripe fruit character ...mores. The 2005 growing season started with a late bloom followed by a fairly average warming season which enabled us to acclimate the vines to the intense summer in this warm region. The fruit load was thinned to a projected 2.5 tons per acre, quite a small crop for these rich deep soils. To achieve full maturation of fruit without sacrificing natural acidity, we harvested this in the middle of September.
