Syrah

26056 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.
More information on Syrah
Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2005 Syrah

From the Estate Vineyard in Paicines, located at one of the highest and steepest points on the property, the Syrah block is planted in exceptionally well-drained decomposed granite ...more soils. This helps keep berry size minimal due to the limited water availability. The resulting fruit, dense in color and rich in tannins and flavor intensity, was fermented in small open-top tanks to extract every nuance from the berries and skins.

2007 Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah
Black Ridge Vineyard

These grapes come from a carefully tended hillside vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Los Gatos. The wine was barrel aged in French oak for 15 months to provide additional ...morestructure and balance. This is an excellent example of what a coastal climate Syrah should be.

“The 2007 Black Ridge Vineyard Syrah exhibits intriguing aromas of blackberry and wild black cherries with layered notes of spice, chocolate, coffee and caramel. On the palate the wine shows its vibrant core of blackberry and raspberry that expand with well-proportioned flavors of molasses, nutmeg, and a touch of earthiness and French oak. 2007 Livermore Valley Syrah

2008 Fiery Nights - Syrah
Briarwood Estate Vineyard

Fiery Nights is our pure expression of Westside Paso Robles Syrah. From a single block of calcareous soil at Briarwood, it is comprised of clones 383 and Alban 2. This 100% Syrah i ...mores meant to highlight the layers and complexity of the varietal, as well as express how our terroir influences its character. Our proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the consistent afternoon flow of cool Templeton Gap breezes allows our Syrah to achieve characters of both a warm and cool climate. Seeking finesse over power, the fruit was hand picked in September at ideal ripeness and treated gently, including multiple hand sorting and whole berry fermentation. The resultant wine is balanced, complex, and pure, just as we wanted it.

The nose speaks of rich, juicy plums highlighted by baking spices, licorice and sweet ginger notes. The palate is round and balanced with good weight that avoids being heavy. Flavors mirror the aromas, with dark fruits taking center stage. To sum it up clearly, Fiery Nights is a wine with old world class and new world sass.
