Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakersâ€™ practices, and terroir.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

Produced in the classical French style from multiple clone grapes, grown at the winery site, our 2005 Estate Bottled Syrah displays black plum and black cherry fruit, with tastes of cocoa, spice, minerals and subtle smoky notes. On the palate, the texture is smooth and ample with a very long, complex finish created by the rich, yet soft tannins. We recommend bottle aging this wine for at least a year before drinking to let the tannins soften and the fruit fully develop. Properly cellared, we expect this wine to age well for 6-to-8 years.

Try our Syrah with a barbecued, marinated tri-tip roast, game birds, lamb, beef stew or spicy foods (Mexican, chili, exotic Asian infusions). Syrah is a great food companion of chocolate.

The color is dark violet and the fruit characteristics include black cherry, plum, blackberry and blueberry, with a hint of pomegranates and peppery, smoky accents. On the palate, the wine is rich and balanced with a long jammy finish. Drinkable now with decanting, this wine will nevertheless mature gracefully over the next 8-to-10 years, as the generous tannins soften.

Versatile with food, Syrah pairs well with grilled red meat dishes, duck, Mediterranean-style foods (olive oil, garlic, rosemary and thyme are its friends), as well as spicy food and cheese.

The tasting begins 30 minutes 16 seconds into the movie. Syrah was AWOL from our lineup from the 2000 through 2003 vintages. For ten years we had a lot of success with the variety. Then came three years of trouble with the wines, which w ...moree finally traced back to the vineyard. Luckily, we liked the variety so much, we planted a new vineyard in 2000 using an unusual trellis which we thought Syrah would like. In 2004, we pulled out the problem vineyard and made the first wine from the new vineyard. Many of you are drinking this wine, and it is remarkable. First because it is just plain good, but also because it is just amazing such a good wine could be made from four year old grapes, and on the first attempt. We were worried the bar had been set so high. Now we feel really good because the 2005 has picked up right where the 2004 left off. If you have a bottle of each for comparison, you will find that the 2004 is a bit more refined due to a year in the bottle, but the 2005 is basically the same wine with a little more flavor intensity. This should continue as the vines mature. You just canâ€™t beat a good Syrah at the table. We deliberately make the wine a bit subdued. We donâ€™t want to lose any of the meaty-currant varietal flavor and balance
