Syrah

26389 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2004 Syrah
Shenandoah Valley

Well drained granitic soil, combined with warm days and cool nights, create ideal growing conditions for this Syrah, the famed varietal of the Rhone Valley in France. Bright, conce ...morentrated, red fruit characters, with hints of berry and mocha, are the opening act in this multi-layered wine. Soft, velvety, tannins frame the rich, mouthcoating palate of plum and lavender, finishing with hints of maple and toasty oak. Drink now or cellar 3 to 5 years. Call for availability.

2003 Syrah
Alexander Valley, California

Eighty miles north of San Francisco, the Alexander Valley is considered a warm winegrowing area, but with a crucial difference: in the evenings cooling winds flow into the valley t ...morehrough the Healdsburg Gap, giving the grapes a respite from the day's sun and concentrating their acidity and flavors. The Alexander Valley Vineyards Syrah takes full advantage of these conditions; this full-bodied wine has lots of blackberry, boysenberry, and black pepper aromas, while its light tannins and good acidity makes it a great food wine.

2003 La Cruz Syrah
Sonoma County

Black is the word that keeps coming up when describing this wine: black color, blackberry jam, black pepper, black leather (OK, it could be any color leather, but doesn’t black l ...moreeather sound better?). In addition, there are notes of chocolate, tobacco, sweet oak and mint. The core of hedonistic sweet fruit is kept lively by bright acidity and the texture is rich, long and full. While still quite young and enjoyable for its copious fruit, this wine is probably best enjoyed 2006 – 2012.

The 2003 Syrah is from Tanner Vineyards, known for their fine grapes. The wine is full-bodied, fruity, smooth a ...morend was so good this year that we did not blend it with any other variety. It has a marvelous structure and mouth feel by itself. You will find up-front fruit, a nice middle and a smooth, interesting finish. The wine contains aromas and flavors of cherry and berry with a hint of spice, and vanilla. Drink the wine now or lay it down to smooth out the tannins even more. We recommend this wine with any heavy meal such as good barbequed steak.

2005 Syrah

This is the first time that we have done a Syrah and we are excited by the results! We got some amazing fruit from Contra Costa County, one of the best regions to grow this particu ...morelar varietal, and the vineyard is owned by our winery building contractor, which keeps it all in the family. The wine is a beautiful garnet color with a nose of roasted blueberries, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate, the flavor of plush fresh fruit is ripe, round and wonderfully balanced. 2004 Paradise Road Vineyard Syrah
Santa Barbara County

For the very first time, we are proud to introduce the 04 Paradise Road Syrah. The grapes for this wine come from one of the most unique and picturesque vineyards located right off ...more Hwy 154, halfway in between our valley and Santa Barbara. Due to its inland location, it is a very warm site, but still enjoys a consistent maritime influence. We aged the wine completely in French oak barrels, 50% were new and 50% were 3 year old barrels. The extended barrel aging – 25 months!- imparted nice toasty, spicy oak notes to the wine.

This is a dynamic addition to our single-vineyard syrah portfolio. Big, forward dark fruit flavors are complemented by racy, peppery spice notes. The wine is rich and round texturally with good tannin structure and balance. We hope you enjoy our new addition as much as we do! 97 cases made.
