Zinfandel

21489 visitors
Zinfandel is grown by over 200 producers, and now accounts for over 23% of the total vineyard territory. Its quality and character largely depend on the place of cultivation, the age of the vineyard, and the winemaking technology. Zinfandel became so popular that in 1991 the association of Zinfandel Advocates and Producers (ZAP) was founded with the objective to promote the varietal and wine, and support scientific research on Zinfandel - particularly its origin.
More information on Zinfandel
Food Pairing: Pairs well with barbecue foods like chili, burgers and fried chicken -heavy on the spice and flavor. Zinfandel can hold its own out of a plastic glass on a picnic table or served in crystal with an elegant Chateaubriand.

2005 Zinfandel
Mendocino Ridge, Gianoli Ranch

Our Mendocino Ridge Zinfandel has a complex bouquet, with elements of cedar, plums, violets, and boysenberry. Rich dark blackberry flavors predominate, leading to a long finish wit ...moreh accents of chocolate and black raspberry.

The deep fruit flavor of this wine make it a natural partner to meat dishes with a bit of spice: try it with a mild posole with pork and beef.

It is always blended with a bit of Peti ...morete Sirah for better color and depth of flavor. Zinfandel has been planted and farmed on this property for over a century and is Eric's favorite wine in our line up. It has been heard that Eric would drink this wine all day if it only had caffeine in it.

2005 Zinfandel, Miracles Ranch
Paso Robles

I’ve been drinking Zinfandel for over 30 years, in one form or another, and I have never run across one like this. Big alcohol, yet velvety smooth. It has hints of blackberry, st ...morerawberry and a touch of chocolate. This is the best I’ve had. Not that I’m prejudiced, I grew it, but it is good. No burnt fruit here. It’s all about capturing the essence of Zinfandel, ripe fruit, picked at the right time, to make the best wine possible. While our name starts with an R and I’m sure the other Zinfandel “R’s” will be looking over their shoulders once they buy a bottle of this wine! Try the new “R” on the block! 2005 Zinfandel
Shenandoah Valley, CA

The wine was made in our “Submerged Cap Fermentation Tank” and aged for about a year in predominantly French Oak barrels. The aroma of this wine is dominated by black cherry w ...moreith nuances of black pepper. On the palate the dark fruit character becomes more pronounced adding layers of black berries and cassis while the black pepper flavor also intensifies. The long finish has more dark fruit with added layers of coffee and spice. This wine is very well balanced with a strong varietal identity.

This wine which is very drinkable now will age graciously and will become a gem in years to come.

2004 Zinfandel
Freiberg Vineyards

This is one of the most unique zinfandels that you will ever have the opportunity to taste. The reason for this phenomenon is that the fruit in this particular vineyard is affected ...more by boytritus, or the noble rot, that give the great Sauternes of France their character.

The resulting wine has an exquisite nose of honeyed melons and apricots followed by and explosion of ripe fruit on the palette and finished with a wonderful and concentrated acidity.

2004 Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley

The 2004 Dry Creek Zinfandel is the seventh vintage for Christopher Creek Winery. We produced this wine by fermenting the grapes in small open top tanks with two punch downs daily ...moreto every “pump over.” After two weeks, the wine was transferred to a mixture of 65% American oak and 35% French oak barrels (25% of the barrels were new oak). Classical Dry Creek Zin in style, the wine exhibits a medium-dark ruby hue, with forward strawberry and raspberry jammy fruit, hints of vanilla, white pepper, spice and a mouth feel that lingers. While still quite young, this intense, perfectly balanced and bright wine is remarkably approachable with medium tannins and an aging potential of about 3-to-4 years. The wine pairs wonderfully with risotto, pasta, turkey, duck, lamb or chicken.

2004 Zinfandel
Russian River Valley

The 2004 Russian River Zinfandel is the sixth vintage for Christopher Creek. We made this wine from grapes obtained from two nearby vineyards, both of which added to the complexity ...more and taste of the wine. 70% of the grapes are from young but "old clone Zinfandel vines" and 30% from a two acre plot of 80+ year-old dry-farmed Zinfandel vines which have intermingled a few Alicante Bouschet and Carignane vines. The younger vines bring a subtle berry aroma and acidity, while the older vines add the structure, concentration and intensity. Although somewhat spicier as a result of the cooler Russian River climate, this wine exhibits ripe, jammy boysenberry, blackberry, prune and currant fruits with a full mouth feel and is perfectly balanced and approachable. Should easily age for 4-to-6 years.

Traditional Italian food would be complimented by this Primitivo-style wine, as well as chocolate desserts and Amaretto cakes.

2003 Fiddletown Zinfandel
Sierra Nevada Foothills

My brother Dick and I think the Grenache and Zinfandel he grows in Fiddletown make some of the most delicious wines we’ve ever had. The rocky slopes of this vineyard are sun-dren ...moreched throughout the growing season, producing fully ripe, fully delicious grapes. Our 2002 Fiddletown Zinfandel is Zin at its best – bursting with black berry sweetness and underlying peppery and cedar notes. Its tannins have power and structure, but they are soft and well balanced with the lush fruit. It’s a wine with layers and layers of flavors, a Zin to drink on its own with great pleasure. As a food wine, it is excellent with all kinds of tomato and barbecue sauces, and red meats from grilled hamburgers to filet mignon.
