Zinfandel

21499 visitors
Zinfandel is grown by over 200 producers, and now accounts for over 23% of the total vineyard territory. Its quality and character largely depend on the place of cultivation, the age of the vineyard, and the winemaking technology. Zinfandel became so popular that in 1991 the association of Zinfandel Advocates and Producers (ZAP) was founded with the objective to promote the varietal and wine, and support scientific research on Zinfandel - particularly its origin.
More information on Zinfandel
Food Pairing: Pairs well with barbecue foods like chili, burgers and fried chicken -heavy on the spice and flavor. Zinfandel can hold its own out of a plastic glass on a picnic table or served in crystal with an elegant Chateaubriand.

2005 Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley

This elegant wine has fragrances of black cherry, blackberry, raspberry, dried herbs and tobacco with flavors of ripe boysenberry and raspberry, vanilla, toasted oak and baking spi ...moreces. Complex and well balanced, it is structured by soft tannins and a touch of acidity. A finish of dark ripe fruit and berry compote. Pairs well with hearty seafood stews, rustic French bread and artisan cheeses, or mixed greens with Calamata olives.

Medium-dark ruby. Maraschino cherries, red licorice whips, and just a hint of buttery-goodness greet the nose. Mmmmmm! On the palate, quite full-bodied but with ample tannins and a ...morecidity, not at all flabby or oafish. This should age quite well. Begin drinking in mid-2009 and enjoy through 2015. Rockpile AVA

With our family’s first planting of Zinfandel in Sonoma County in 1895, we began to seek out vineyards which showcase Sonoma as the world’s premier appellation for zinfandel. ...moreRockpile, a narrow ridge some 1200 feet above Dry Creek Valley, is just one of those areas. Steep, well-drained hillsides with shallow, rocky topsoil provide for less vigorous vines, smaller berries and intensely flavored zinfandel.

Dry Creek Valley, Lavender Hill Vineyard

The first significant yield from this young mountain vineyard, it’s plush and rich and shows beautiful potential, with a medium weight on the palate and no jarring tannins. The f ...moreruit is reminiscent of wild blackberries with hints of raspberry, and the oak is subtle and tinged with smoke and vanilla. There’s also a nuance of black pepper as you savor the long, smooth finish.

2005 Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley

Our old vines are “dry farmedâ€, meaning they receive no irrigation, and yet, because the vineyard is located on the rich soil of the Valley floor, they are extremely prolific. ...moreTo keep flavors intense we choose to drop fruit three times during the growing season, and it paid off. The remaining fruit proved to be excellent. David is very pleased with the rich, dark raspberry scented vintage. The alcohol is a bit higher than our former wines at 15%, which adds a bit of black pepper and a tremendous mouth feel and finish. We are proudly releasing it to our wine club, urging them to drink two and lay two down, as it will age beautifully.

2004 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

2004 was all about structure in the Dry Creek region of Sonoma. The vineyards ripened evenly throughout the season and at harvest we found a small percentage of raisins on the clus ...moreters, providing the wine with tremendous fruit on the nose and palate while giving us solid acid structure not diluted by concentrated, sweet juice. After a long 18 day fermentation and 7 days of extended juice to skin contact, the wine was put into 90% neutral oak and 10% new French oak and aged for 18 months before bottling.

This wine bursts with wonderful aromas and flavors of raspberry and blackberry while the beautiful vanilla sweetness from the new French oak barrels creates a lingering, memorable finish. This is a complete wine that is sure to please.

With supple tannins our Heritage Clone Zinfandel is concentrated and vibrant—a classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel.

We recommend serving this food-loving wine with grilled baby back ribs, end of the season tomato soup and spaghetti Bolognese.

Maple Vineyards

This elegant and lush wine comes from the head pruned and dry farmed Maple Vineyard on the eastern bench of Dry Creek Valley. This Zinfandel has claret-like balance with beautifull ...morey pronounced fruit, well integrated tannins and bright, balanced acidity. Flooded with black cherry, currant and cranberry flavors, there are also supporting flavors of vanilla and rich toast from aging in 100% French oak barrels. Though picked separately the Zinfandel and Petite Sirah are co-fermented giving this wine a deep garnet color.

We recommend serving our 2005 Maple Zinfandel with grilled pork tenderloin, polenta lasagna or a wedge of dry jack cheese.
