Syrah

26676 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.
More information on Syrah
Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

2005 Sonoma Mountain, Janian Vineyard Syrah
Sonoma Mountain, Janian Vineyard

The third vintage of wine we have released from this vineyard, it is a classic, cool weather Syrah--think northern Rhone, rather than California. It starts with plum, blueberry and ...more smoky, cigar box aromas. The mouth has wonderful flavors of ripe dark berries and pepper, with silky tannins and good acidity. The finish is great, too. Enjoy.

We've never made a Syrah this beautiful in every way, from the color to the amazing finish. It's gloriously deep and dark, and tantalizes your nose with a wealth of intriguing arom ...moreas. You might find a ham and Swiss sandwich in there, plus olives, sweet sandalwood, and toasted pumpernicker bread. The white pepper is most amazing, and continues onto the palate, along with delectable flavors of salami, ollalieberry and blueberry jam. On the back end, tart goosebery and ginger really spice up the finish, which doesn't quit easily. This is one precocious wine that evolves in the glass and never ceases to amaze. This wine spent 12 months on American Oak. Enjoy this wine now.

2004 Syrah-Cabernet
Santa Ynez Valley

Our vineyard location allows us to grow a variety of grapes that welcome plenty of summer sunshine and warm, lazy days. We are fortunate that in addition to Bordeaux varietals that ...more we are known for, the grapes traditionally grown in France's Rhone Valley also feel at home here. That makes it possible to create wines of more complexity than we could with just one type or the other. Our winemaker knows there's a certain magic that occurs when the lively flavors of syrah meet rich earthy cabernet. Syrah is full of bright spicy berry flavor and a 43% infusion of cabernet adds a rich undertone of dusty plum and dried leaves.

The exciting flavors of 2004 Buttonwood Syrah-Cabernet will pair perfectly with a pork tenderloin coated with minced garlic and Herbs d' Provence and oven-braised with chunks of potato, carrot, parsnip and sweet potato.

2004 Syrah
El Dorado County

Our Syrah was left on the vine for an extra six days to bring out the most ripe fruit flavor. We brought it in just before the flavors would have turned raisiny. The fermentation p ...moreroceeded slowly, and this results in more extraction from the skins. French oak barrels were chosen to accentuate the dark fruit flavors.

The aromas have a distinct caramel tone overlaying deep plum and cassis smells. There is a slight toasty character and some cedar in the nose as well. The flavors are full of intense black currant and black cherry. The barrels add some smokey accents and vanillin texture. This is a powerful wine that should continue to get better with time in the cellar.

2003 Syrah
El Dorado County

The 2003 Syrah is 100% Firefall Vineyard Syrah, located in the Fairplay Appellation. This is a west-facing slope that is fairly steep. The vines are quadrilateral cordon-trained. W ...moree harvested very small berries on small clusters. The fruit came in clean and the bins smelled of white pepper and berries.

The wine exhibits a dark purple color with slight brick around the edges. Intense aromas of violets, plums and cassis. Lots of licorice, tar and roasted black fruits emerge with time. Fruit tones are fairly developed with hints of leather creeping into the finish. This is medium, big bodied wine with enough weight to smooth out the cedar and leather-tinged finish.

Part of this blend was run from skins early for barrel fermentation, while the balance was left on skins for a short maceration time prior to final pressing.
