Syrah

26680 visitors
Wines made from Shiraz are often quite powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called typical though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these primary notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory tertiary notes such as leather and truffle. Secondary flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers’ practices, and terroir.
More information on Syrah
Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled and barbecued meats, pork and venison, or fish and poultry that are very light on sauces. Nice with a hunk of rustic bread and olive oil.

The grapes for this spicy blend came from three superb appellations in Northern, Central and Southern coastal counties. All three are cold-weather climates with distinctive flavor ...morecomponents, with blackberry, cherry and plum fruit flavors, pulling from the blend.

A delectable structure, initially soft but with solid tannic structure and great balance. Nuances of leather, licorice and mocha add pleasure to the finishing flavors. This Syrah offers a harmonious blend with more complexity than wines from single appellations.

2003 Alexander Valley Syrah

The allure of Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley has captured our winemaking interest and enticed us to purchase from an exquisite boutique Syrah vineyard in the town of Asti. The ...moregently rolling hills and the warm, long days in the northern Alexander Valley allow the three different clones of Syrah planted on this ranch to mature to optimum ripeness. The result is an inky-dark, voluptuous wine of uncommon depth and character. This wine matured in a blend of French and American oak for eighteen months and was released in March 2005. Flavors of ripe plum, dusty briar berries, and a truffle-like note make this intriguing Syrah a wine to look forward to.

2004 Syrah
Russian River

The 2004 vintage in the Russian River Valley was is remembered as one that delivered a small crop of high quality grapes. The vines budded very early and heat spikes in mid summer ...moreassured the crop ripened well with ample natural acidity. Grapes from Jim Ledbetter’s Preston Ranch Vineyard, a hillside vineyard overlooking the Russian River, make about 40% of this wine. Grapes from Scott Kerson’s vineyard on Fitch mountain, Vino Farm’s Silk Road Vineyard and Jeff Webber’s ranch on Chalk Hill Road make up the rest.

This release of the RRV Syrah shows an inviting minty note that blends into the dark berry character as the wine opens up in the glass. A wild fennel spiciness leads to a lush, velvety mid-palate and reappears on the long finish. As with all the wines of Longboard, the point of this wine is to strike a balance of components that delivers a complex and layered experience that is true to the variety and the growing season.

2005 Syrah

This is the first time that we have done a Syrah and we are excited by the results! We got some amazing fruit from Contra Costa County, one of the best regions to grow this particu ...morelar varietal, and the vineyard is owned by our winery building contractor, which keeps it all in the family. The wine is a beautiful garnet color with a nose of roasted blueberries, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate, the flavor of plush fresh fruit is ripe, round and wonderfully balanced. All the way through to its velvety finish, this wine is a stunner and will pair beautifully with grilled and smoked food of all varieties.
