Each year Landmark's winemaking evolves and continues to improve, as we strive to perfect our craft, and learn how best to interpret the qualities of each vintage. The key to flavorful and balanced wine is to capture these traits in the grapes. If we achieve this, the wine literally makes itself. With optimal fruit ripeness comes a perfect balance of sugar and acid, flavor and finesse, the hallmarks of great wine.

2005 Overlook Chardonnay
Sonoma Valley

The 22 separate vineyards that comprise this year's Overlook include such distinguished growers as Sangiacomo, Bien Nacido, Martinelli and Lorenzo. All the wine in the Overlook bot ... moretling is barrel fermented using indigenous yeasts that undergoes full malo-lactic fermentation. The wine is aged sur lie for nine months in Burgundian barrels and racked to tanks for blending. Six weeks prior to bottling in August of 2006, the wine received a light isinglass fining. It was bottled without filtration.

The aromas of toasted almonds, caramel and coconut are followed by crisp green apple and lemon rind flavors that convey certain minerality. The acidity and balance of the 2005 Overlook is much more Burgundian than previous offerings. This wine will pair well with seafoods and shellfish, and complement pastas with cream sauces, as well as roast chicken and pork roast with fruit.

2005 Damaris Reserve Chardonnay
Sonoma Valley

Three distinct vineyard blocks comprise this year's Damaris Reserve, all planted and farmed by the Sangiacomo family, third generation Sonoma County grape growers. Each lot was bar ... morerel fermented in French oak, using indigenous yeast and aged for 13 months sur lie. Malolactic fermentation was completed in September of 2006. After racking and fining, the wine was bottled without filtration in January of 2007.

An opulent, rich texture reveals concentrated apricot nectar and orange peel spice, all framed by beautifully integrated oaky toastiness which is carried to a long finish by the crisp acidity, which characterized this exceptional vintage.

2006 Grand Detour Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast

The 2006 Grand Detour Pinot Noir is a blend of five Sonoma Coast vineyards: Kanzler, Keller Estate, Flocchini, Gap's Crown and Armagh. There is also some fruit from the Solomon Hil ... morels Vineyard in Santa Barbara. The result is a wine that exhibits great typicity and elegant balance. The cool growing season in 2006 and the extremely late harvest produced a wine with strong notes of raspberry and strawberry. It was aged in 33% new oak for ten months. This is an elegant, classic Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. This wine will pair well with game, duck and salmon as well as mushroom accented dishes.

2005 Steel Plow Syrah
Sonoma Valley

There are four clonal selections in the approximately 10 acre site: Durrell, Bien Nacido, Syrah Noir and Alban. All the grapes are fermented in small open-topped fermenters. The wi ... morene was aged for 14 months in 30% new oak. A gentle egg white fining proceeded bottling in January 2007.

The wine exhibits a pronounced floral aroma along with chamois leather and plum preserves. In the mouth the tannins are extremely supple with enough acidity to lift the fruit profile and add consideration length to the wine's finish. A conservative but appropriate alcohol of 13.7% keeps everything in harmonious balance.

2006 Kanzler Pinot Noir

The wine can be enjoyed in its youth with just a bit of airing before drinking.

It will complement such savory dishes as mushroom based pastas, roast chicken with herbs or red meats and game.

This vintage is a single-vineyard Barbera, barrel-aged for eighteen months. It has the classic light fruit nose and tart backbone of a true Barbera. Preview tasters say it's one of the smoothest tasting Barbera wines among new releases this year.
