2001 Alexander Valley Carignane

From the day we set our eyes on this patch of vines in the heart of Alexander Valley we knew we were on to something. Working an old style, dry farmed vineyard requires the farmer ...moreto be very hands-on. We reduced our crop and focused on sunlight in the vine canopy to get full, ripe flavors in the wine that resulted. Our carignane is deep and structured with a great nose of toasted cinnamon, clove and orange peel. 120 cases. 100% Tomka Vineyard.

2005 Mas de Maha

Simon and Hillary Graves continue to supply us with Tempranillo from their small, family Ohana vineyard on the east side of the Salinas River. James Berry and Denner Vineyard fruit ...more make up rest of the blend. Large yeilds and big flavors are the buzz words across the board for this vintage. The juicy Tempranillo grapes dripping with flavor and tannin comprise most of the blend. The wine was vinified in our standard fashion and barreled down almost dry to finish primary fermentation in barrel. The wine was aged fourteen months in 50% new wood comprised of half French and half American oak.

BLEND: 60% Ohana Vineyard Tempranillo, 25% Denner Grenache, 15% Denner Mourvedre

Broad on the palate are tar, leat ...moreher, dark berries, and licorice. Long, delicious, Optimus. It’s a shame that this wine is overshadowed by Estate Cuvee. It is incredibly complex and elegant. Meaning laughter in Spanish, our Risa has grown in distinction over the last several years. This wine is a blend of our mountain Cabernet Sauvignon with excellent fruit from the va ...morelley floor, and this vintage definitely reflects the best of both worlds. Great extraction has given this wine dark, ruby color, with the aromas of black and red fruit on the nose, leading into robust forward fruit on the palate with just a hint of the minerality for which Howell Mountain is so well known. A long and full finish rounds out this unique Cabernet blend and it is sure to bring a smile to your face!

...morer> The palate is full-bodied with jammy blackberry liqueur flavors accented by enticing spice box, leather, vanilla and peppery notes. It is balanced, long on the finish and thoroughly rewarding.

2004 Gypsy
Santa Barbara County

In the past, Gypsy was comprised of 100% Grenache. But with such an eclectic name, we decided the wine needed to be something a bit unique as well. So, this years Gypsy is a blend ...moreof 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah. 60% of the grapes are from the Camp 4 Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley & 40% are from Rodney’s Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. After aging for 26 months in 30% New French & American Oak, we bottled the wine and came up with the wine you are now enjoying!

The combination of these three grapes brings out a very balanced wine. Mourvedre tends to be an intense wine heavy on tannins, but the fruit and richness of the Grenache tends to soften the grape while the spice and body of the Syrah gives it structure. On the nose of the Gypsy, there are hints of black cherry, allspice, vanilla and hints of leather followed by a silky smooth texture on the pallet with a light vanilla finish.

This wine will pair nicely with pizza, pasta, grilled or roasted meats like Dad’s pork chops on the grill and root vegetables. Enjoy the Gypsy while you can because, as the name suggests, it won’t be around for long!
