2005 Charbono Napa Valley
Napa Valley

You may be wondering, what is Charbono? Charbono is not a common grape variety in California. There are only 84 planted acres in the entire state! Genetic testing has determined ...more it to be the same grape as Corbeau, which is grown in the Savoie region of France.

The grapes for our second release of this little known varietal come from the Frediani vineyard which is located just south of the winery here in Calistoga. Planted back in the 1920s, this vineyard produces low yields with the ultimate in flavor concentration.

The wine has a dark, almost opaque purple color. It has a full-bodied palate with flavors of raspberry, plum and chocolate with pronounced, but well-integrated tannins giving it a rich texture and long finish.

At harvest the sugar was 25.1 brix with a total acidity of 0.33 g/100 ml and a pH of 3.79. The grapes were destemmed into a small open-topped fermenter and punched down twice daily by hand. The barrels used were 35% new American oak and 65% two and three year old French oak barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for 16 months. It was bottled without fining or filtration. 293 cases produced.

2003 Romance of the Heart
Napa Valley

This is a new red blend we have come up with. You may ask "What is the difference between this and Seduction"? Most of the grapes that went into Romance of the Heart came from a vi ...moreneyard block that had been grafted from Merlot to Cabernet Sauvignon. 2003 was the first year the grafted vines had produced fruit. These grapes were a bit young at the time for the Seduction blend, so we kept it in barrels for another 2 years.

This is a very elegant wine with a wonderful nose - it has notes of deep, dark blackberry and plum with hints of vanilla, tobacco and spice. It has a smooth supple entry with a rich, round mid-palate that is elegant in style finishing with soft tannins.

Composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the back label reads:

Extend to me the hand of conversation

Twirl me with laughter

Embrace me with kindness

Will you be mine for a moment

Or a lifetime?

Only 75 cases produced - limit 1 bottle per order. Counts toward mixed case 10% discount

2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois Red
Napa Valley

Ménage à Trois red brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separate ...morely, then blended together prior to bottling. On top we’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

Our 2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois exposes the fresh, ripe, jam-like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. Forward, silky and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats or chicken.

2003 Grands Amis Première Passion

This 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot brings out the old world of Lodi. A combination of earth and spice [earth from the Petite Verdot and spice from the Caberne ...moret Sauvignon] is written all over this wine, with a mid-pallet complexity of blackberry, dates and a hint of anise.
The aftertaste is more Cabernet driven - dark chocolate.
Well balanced acidity and the good structure of tannins will make this a keeper and would probably show more potential if you have the patience to keep it. It has been aged for 27 months in 100% French Oak barrels - 50% new and 50% second fill.

2004 Phenomenon
St. Helena

Phenomenon embodies the pinnacle of winemaking at Benessere. It is produced only in quantities commensurate with our highest expectations. As such, we feel that Phenomenon is a win ...moree that is age-worthy and substantial enough to pair with hearty dishes as well as elegant fare. This wine has aromas and flavors of dark, ripe cherries and plums, with notes of creamy and toasty oak, and a hint of vanilla. It is perfect to share with friends and family and to toast all joyous occasions. It will age well for the next decade or more.

This is the fifth release of our “Super-Napan” estate blend called “Phenomenon”. The blending of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah is a relatively new “phenomenon” for California. As such, we think it is fitting to name our wine after this occurrence. It is also patterned after some of the “Super-Tuscan” wines of Italy; wines which have crossed the boundaries of regulations and tradition, utilizing superior grape clones and artisan blending to make the best wine possible.
