Sanguis Jovis, the Latin origin for the varietal name, literally means ‘blood of Jove’ and Sangiovese is the primary grape in Italian Chianti. The flavor profile of Sangiovese is fruity, with moderate to high natural acidity and a light to medium body with strawberry, blueberry, violet and clove characteristics. Sangiovese is also the primary grape in Super Tuscan wines produced in Italy and here in the U.S. |
