Roessler Cellars

1967 visitors

Roessler Cellars is dedicated to producing single vineyard designated wines from grapes farmed to our specifications by growers who maintain our passion for quality. From the humble beginnings of our 250 case harvest of Pinot Noir from Sangiacomo Vineyard in 2000, we've grown to 4000 cases of single vineyard wines from the 04 harvest. Our goals are to grow with our estate fruit to a total of 5000 cases over the next 5 years.

2006 Sanford and Benedict Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Santa Ynez Valley

Planted in 1971 by Richard Sanford, this is the oldest Pinot Noir vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. It was purchased in 1990 by Janice and Robert Atkin, and today they farm it wit ... moreh the same high standards. The finished wine is a blend of the original Mt. Eden planting and some newer Dijon clones, adding to the wine’s complexity. Tobacco, spice, and light smokiness on the nose draw you in, which then opens up to more fruit-driven aromas of red fruit and cherry cola. On the palate the fruit builds even further with cherry, blackberry, and black cherry, still paired off with cola, tobacco, and toastiness, and over time a slight floral character develops on both the palate and the nose. The fruit from this vineyard expresses itself with a wonderful balance of nuanced flavors, bold fruit character, and great structure, with supple tannins and good acidity to carry the palate through a smooth finish.

2005 Alder Springs Mendocino Pinot Noir

Spicy notes on the nose of our 2005 Alder Springs Pinot Noir continue through the palate, building from brown spices to almost black pepper, over a foundation of cherry and black f ... moreruit. As it opens up, the nose in particular gains even more spice and fruit, along with some subtle floral and earthy components. As we have done in the past, we let this wine age in barrel for 16 months, to allow the characteristic tannins of the site to soften, yielding a wine with richness and depth, fleshed out by velvety tannins and framed by good structure. As the fruit and lush mouth-feel continues, balanced acidity brings enough verve to the finish to refresh the palate. Should drink well over the next 3-5 years.

2005 Brosseau Chalone Pinot Noir
Monterey

Jan and Jon Brosseau first planted their vineyard in 1981 and 1982, high above the Salinas
Valley in the heart of the Chalone appellation. The vineyard typifies Burgundian t ... moreerroir, with its cool Monterey coastal climate and rocky limestone soils, and is a perfect site for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Our Pinot Noir block was planted in 1999 to the Mt. Eden clone and typically yields 2-3 tons per acre. The wine shows a wonderful balance of fruit, structure, and minerality. Nestled in the hills of the Chalone appellation, just around the bend from Pinnacles National Monument, the Brosseau Vineyard has produced fantastic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for many years. It is a very soil-driven site with sections of the vineyard nearly white from limestone. Because of this, wines made from Brousseau fruit gain a pronounced minerality, with a soft, structured mouthfeel and a range of earth flavors not often found in other California vineyards.

2005 Brosseau Chalone Chardonnay

2005 marks our first year producing Brosseau Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Our Brosseau Chardonnay has a nose of wet stone and pineapple w ... moreith hints of cedar and integrated oak. On the palate, the fruit opens to include apple nuances and pineapple, with good oak structure, wonderful texture from the limestone, and a lingering finish of seamless acidity. The finish actually builds up again before finally trailing off over a long period. It is showing very well right now, and will open up even more over the coming years.

2005 Griffin's Lair Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Our 2005 Griffin's Lair Pinot Noir expresses the characteristic qualities of smoke and leather from this Sonoma Coast site along with bright fruit and savory accents. The smoke and ... more leather on the nose mingle with red fruit and a light layer of dusty earth. The palate starts with mainly raspberry and some cherry, but evolves into deeper, darker fruit tones with hints of olive and meat. All of these elements are well balanced, and the combination of Swan, Pommard, and 115 clones provides layers of complexity. Supple tannins and good acidity give just enough heft to carry the fruit and earth notes through a long finish, without distracting from the prettier qualities in the wine. Ready to drink right now, but with enough structure to stand up to some time in the cellar.

2005 Widdoes Russian River Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley

The Widdoes Vineyard is owned by Shirley & Don Widdoes, whose family has owned the property for many years. It is located in the cool micro-climate zone of Green Valley in the Russ ... moreian River Valley, and is leased and farmed by the Duttons, who planted the vines nearly twenty years ago. These relatively old vines tend to ripen fruit slowly, producing wines with tremendous depth and complexity. Tobacco and chocolate aromas join spiced notes on the nose, rounding out to include raspberry cordials and earthiness. The palate reflects these elements as well and bursts with raspberry and red plum, drawing out in a long finish of fruit, spice, and chocolate shavings. Well-balanced tannins and acidity give the wine good grip and will allow it to age well over the next several years.

2006 La Brisa Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast

“La Brisa” ” is Spanish for the seasonal coastal breeze that rolls over some of Northern California’s most prestigious Pinot Noir vineyards, and the cooling influences of t ... morehis breeze can be seen in the elegant style exhibited by our La Brisa Sonoma Coast blend. We have selected the fruit for this wine from ideal sites around the Sonoma Coast appellation in order to capture the character of the region and to truly express its fruit and earthiness. The 2006 La Brisa opens with a nose of herbs, blackberry, dusty earth, and mixed olives. As it breathes, the herbed aromas resolve into hints of sage and rosemary, and the fruit drifts further to the red end of the spectrum. Bright cherry, blackberry, and red plum fill the palate, along with herbed overtones and sassafras. The finish draws out with chocolate, vanilla, and cherry, along with the herbed, earthy notes of earlier, and as it opens up further over time, an essence of cinnamon even joins the picture. While there are dark fruit flavors, this year’s La Brisa leans more towards red fruit, yielding a fresh, bright flavor profile with good structure and a rich finish.

2005 Peregrine Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Santa Barbara County

This is the first release of our fourth blended wine, Peregrine, from the Sta. Rita Hills appellation in Santa Barbara County. It expresses the tannic structure, herbed nuance, and ... more beautiful fruit of the appellation with boldness and finesse. The Santa Rita Hills appellation is a cool-climate growing region, which stretches between Lompoc and Buellton in a series of rolling east-west hills. The coastal fog and winds influence the climate and cool the area, yielding concentrated fruit and wines with complexity and excellent structure. Named for the peregrines which have made a resurgence in the region after a successful reintroduction program, this wine does a great job of expressing the character of the appellation through fruit sourced from the Sanford and Benedict Vineyard and La Encantada Vineyard, two terrific sites for Pinot Noir.
