Sangiovese

15976 visitors
Sangiovese is a red wine grape variety originating in Italy. It is most famous as the main component of the Chianti blend in Tuscany, but winemakers outside Italy are starting to experiment with it. Young sangiovese has fresh fruity flavours of strawberry and a little spiciness, but it readily takes on oaky, even tarry, flavours when aged in barrels.

2005 Rosato

We decided to make a dry Rose for the first time from our 2005 harvest. We immediately pressed the juice off a small lot of Sangiovese grapes as they came into the winery during cr ...moreush and used a few barrels of the red Sangiovese to give it a beautiful rose/salmon tint before bottling. This wine is refreshing and full of fruit –strawberries on the nose with delicious flavors of strawberries and cranberries on the palate and finish. With little residual sugar, this dry wine is perfect for sipping at those backyard barbeques this spring and summer, pairing delightfully with almost anything you can cook up on the grill.

2005 Private Reserve Sangiovese
Santa Clara Valley

The Guglielmo family proudly offers this Cal-Italia wine in celebration of the rich Old World winemaking tradition. The Sangiovese is the predominate grape variety used to produce ...morethe Italian Chianti Classicos. After a bit of aeration, the 2005 vintage opens with an earthy, dark fruit character set within a background of incense-like spices. On the palate the dark fruit characters develop and evolve - complementing an array of anise, allspice, cola and cedar.

WINEMAKERS NOTES:
Produced from two distinct vineyards located within the western foothills of Santa Clara Valley, the 2005 Private Reserve Santa Clara Valley Sangiovese exhibits an alluring fruit-forward style. For additional complexity and to soften the acidity we blended in 15% 2005 Santa Clara Valley Merlot. The production of the 2005 vintage yielded approximately 660 cases.
