Rhone Blend

9898 visitors
The Rhône wine region is first divided into north and south. The north produces syrah based reds and pure viognier whites. The south produces Châteauneuf-du-Pape and other blends from several varieties. The first cultivated vines were likely planted in 600 BC, however, the orgins of the two most important grape varieties in the northern Rhone (Syrah and Viognier) are unknown.

Elegant and balanced. Aromas of cherries and stewed strawberries. A slight smoky vanilla component. Flavors of dried cherries and rich berry jam. The finish is velvety and viscous.

2003 Holy Moly!
Sierra Foothills

Medium garnet color. Intense, complex nose of black pepper, Sierra brush (that's our version of "Garrigue"!), mountain flowers, ground meat, cocoa, spicy herbs and smoke. On the pa ...morelate it is intensely ripe and fruity upfront, with strong spicy and gamey notes following, finishing on chocolatey tannins and minerals. The texture is rich and fine-grained. Very young and a little rough at the edges or disjointed at this stage, should improve vastly with a couple of years in the cellar.

2005 Petite Frere
Dry Creek Valley

While our Petit Frere might lack the complexity and elegance of our Grenache bottling, it is a much fuller-bodied wine than your typical Cotes du Rhone. It has plenty of ripe, jamm ...morey fruit from the Grenache with smoky, meaty flavors coming from Mourvedre and Syrah. Think of this wine as a Dry Creek’s version of a Cotes du Rhone that has been on an aggressive weight lifting program.

2006 Cuvee Papou
Demetria Winery/Vineyards

Inspired by the owner, Papou in greek translates as grandfather. A composite blend of our estate grown white varietals, brings out an exotic well polished wine. Comprising of 33% M ...morearsanne, 24% Viognier, 24% Grenache Blanc and 19% Roussane.

In the glass, Papou glows with a crisp, pale straw color, with a floral rose based aroma bought out by the viognier. Surrounding the mouth, it begins with hints of marmalade jam & tropical fruits on the front , finished with lingering contrasts of melon, apricot, candied ginger & white pepper. Aged on Sur Lie for 10 months with 20% new oak, "Grandfather" will hold his own, just like John.

2006 Choreography Cabernet Blend
Napa Valley

Choreography represents our role of creating the stage of our vines and grapes to schieve their highest expression in the vineyards and at the winery. The grapes for this wine com ...moree from vineyards near Yountville that are managed by the Nord family, a family with a distinguished tradition in Napa Valley winegrowing.

"Our dark ruby colored 2006 Choreography exhibits an extraordinary bouguet of dark cherry, blackberry and creme de cassis intermixed with vanilla, molasses and chocolate mint. On the palate it confirms the depth of the rich red and black fruit enhanced with hints of clove, vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa. Choreography finishes with pleasing levels of acidity and creamy, ripe tannins to give the wine an excellent structure to complement its richness."--GJ

2008 Mad Crush - Rhone Blend
Briarwood Vineyard

Mourvedre and Grenache bring fruit and spice to this eclectic blend, while Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Tempranillo provide backbone and color. A splash of Alicante Bouschet gives an a ...moredditional lift in color and complexity.

The nose is layered with cherries, cranberry and lavender, with accents of chocolate and herbs de Provence. On the palate, the wine sings with upfront fruit flavors of strawberries and sour cherries, finishing with a streak of minerality. The rich, full mouthfeel is balanced with fresh acidity and a red fruit finish that goes on and on.
