2006 Zinfandel/Petite Sirah Taylor Mountain Vineyard & Elder Vineyard
Taylor Mountain Vineyard is nestled just below the saddle-shaped peak of Taylor Mountain, as depicted on the front label painting by well-known Sonoma Valley artist Michael Holland ...more. When John Shakleford Taylor settled in Sonoma Valley in 1853, his land holdings were the largest under one name in all of Sonoma County. On his most prized land he planted Zinfandel and Mission grapes. The Watkins Family has farmed Zinfandel on this breathtaking property since 1979, and we have found that the dark fruit and spicy flavors of Petite Sirah blend perfectly with the boysenberry jam and pepper components of Zinfandel. Elder Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley is carefully tended by Vineyard Micromanagement.
These low-yielding Zinfandel and Petite Sirah vines produce a concentrated and complex wine that is a great example of hillside-grown Zinfandel. The wine has humongous fruit yet perfectly balanced acidity and alcohol. It pairs well with spicier, saltier dishes such as paella with peppered chicken and spicy sausage or baby back ribs.

2008 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay Jenkins Vineyard
the fruit of this wine was grown in our home vineyard, resting at 1,400 feet in the foothills of California's Santa Cruz Mountains above Los Gatos. Planted in 1999, there are appr ...moreoximately 650 vines on this sloping one-acre vineyard site that produced just over four tons of fruit for the 2008 harvest. The grapes were hand harvested early in the morning and transported directly to the winery in small picking lugs. They were then immediately whole cluster pressed and fermented and aged in French oak barrels.
“The 2008 Chardonnay reveals wonderful green apple and pineapple aromas with essence of vanilla and honeysuckle. The palate explodes with fruit. A harvest basket of apple, pear, melon and banana are a wonderful contrast to the mineral flavors that are always evident in the wines from our estate hillside vineyard. These flavors all intertwine with cinnamon and clove spice, adding to the complexity of this wine. The mouth-filling richness and sweet toasty oak set the stage for the crisp lively finish.”--GJ
