Wildhurst Vineyards begins its story in the pear orchards of Kelseyville, nestled against the flank of Mt. Konocti in Lake County, just north of the famed Napa Valley. There, in 1966, fifth-generation pear grower Myron Holdenried decided to replant an orchard with 30 acres of Zinfandel grapes.
Hurst is a Gaelic word meaning "wooded hillside" and "wild hurst" is the perfect description for the verdant slopes of Mt. Konocti overlooking the Holdenried ranch. Wildhurst's home vineyard lies at the foot of the dormant volcano's western exposure, and from the home vineyard the view is spectacular, rugged and beautiful.
The name evokes the spreading California native oaks that dot the vineyard acreage, and the zest for nature and simple living that characterize this lovely rural area. In this spirit, Wildhurst makes direct, hand-crafted wines from a winemaker's passion and a farmer's love of his land. | Kelseyville, CA Phone: (800) 595-9463 Website: http://www.wildhurst.com Appellation: Clear Lake Tasting Room: Open daily 10am-5pm |
