TAPAS at COPIA July 30, 2008 Napa California - Tempranillo (And Friends) In the Spotlight at COPIA
Napa, CA - July 30, 2008 - TAPAS* is reminding you that the most extensive tasting of domestically produced Iberian varietal wines ever offered in America will take place on August 8 and 9, 2008, at COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts, 500 First Street, Napa, CA 94559.
Friday, August 8 is Wine Trade and Media Day, starting with a seminar from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, "Why Iberia and Why Now" moderated by Burke Owens of Bonny Doon Vineyard. The huge number of people wanting to attend the seminar has exceeded the capacity of the Staglin Room, and so in order to accommodate everyone we have upgraded the venue to the 260-seat theater, the largest room at COPIA. Because of the physical constraints of theater style seating, we cannot conduct the guided tasting as originally planned. However, the same talks will be given, and attendees will receive special directions so that after leaving the theater, they can find and taste the wines that were discussed.
From 3:00 to 5:00 pm on the mezzanine, there will be a large walk-around tasting of the wines produced by 40 TAPAS members in America from indigenous Spanish and Portuguese winegrapes. If you are a member of the Wine Trade or Media, please fill out and send in the registration form, available on the TAPAS website at http://www.tapasociety.org/, or email hlstine@cox.net to register for your complimentary admission to the seminar and/or the walk-around tasting on Friday, August 8.
Saturday, August 9 is for the public. From 1:00 to 2:00 pm there will be an informative consumer oriented seminar and guided wine and cheese tasting in the Meyer Food Forum; tickets for the seminar are $20.00, available from COPIA. From 2:00 to 4:00 pm consumers will have an opportunity to taste all these same wines in a delightful walk-around tasting where they may chat with the TAPAS growers and producers. Tickets for the walk-around tasting are $25, available from COPIA: Toll free (888) 512-6742 or http://www.copia.org/ .
For the latest list of participating wineries, see the TAPAS website.
