JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery Announces the Appointment of Joseph Spellman as Winery Master Sommelier

Paso Robles, CA - January 28, 2008, Paso Robles, CA – JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Spellman to the position of Winery Master Sommelier.
Mr. Spellman reports to Rich Richardson, V.P. and Director of Sales and Marketing. He will be active in both wholesale and retail sales as well as consulting with the winemaking team. He is the only Master Sommelier working full time for a winery on the Central Coast and one of only a handful working at a winery anywhere in the world!
Mr. Spellman is one of only 85 Master Sommeliers nationwide. He received his diploma from the Court of Master Sommeliers in 1996 and is the current Chairman of the Court of Master Sommeliers, American Chapter. He possesses an extensive wine background including positions as Wine Director at the renowned Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago; Director of Advanced Wine Education for importer and marketing powerhouse Terlato/Paterno Wine Group; and most recently, as Director of Education with Joseph Phelps Vineyards. He is one of the world’s best known and most respected Sommeliers. He is only the second American to earn the coveted title of “Best Sommelier in the World in French Wines” awarded at the SOPEXA French Sommelier Competition in Paris and he was named Wine & Spirit Professional of the Year by Bon Appetit magazine in 1998. Mr. Spellman has also contributed to many esteemed wine publications including Wine & Spirits, Wine Enthusiast, Santé, Decanter, and Appellation.
Justin and Deborah Baldwin, proprietors, believe that Mr. Spellman will add a new dimension to JUSTIN’s presence and to the Paso Robles area. Mr. Spellman will continue to reside in Chicago, IL and will represent JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery in the market at events nationwide in addition to local events at the winery in Paso Robles.
