Bacio Divino’s Claus Janzen Launches Cabernet Sauvignon Label
New ‘Janzen’ Portfolio Features Three Distinct Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons

November 26, 2007. Rutherford, Napa Valley, CA – In a departure from his tradition of crafting esoteric red blends, Claus Janzen has launched the Janzen label featuring three Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons. The wines have earned the attention of early reviewers, with Wine Spectator magazine naming Janzen one of “20 new California Cabernet Sauvignon labels to watch.”

Two of the wines debuted earlier this year with the 2004 Vintage. Janzen ‘Cloudy’s Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon showcases fruit from Janzen’s mountain vineyard in north St. Helena. Janzen ‘Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a distinct expression of the legendary Oakville site. Both extremely limited production wines sold out in weeks to Janzen’s loyal following. The third bottling, Janzen Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, was released in September with 1,100 cases of the 2005 vintage and features favored Cabernet lots selected from choice Napa Valley vineyards.

“For years friends had been pressuring me to bottle a Cabernet Sauvignon wine.” says Janzen. “As our newly planted vineyards matured, I also came to appreciate the purity and integrity of Cabernet on its own and decided it was finally time to let the variety speak for itself.”

Janzen developed winemaking relationships while living in the France’s Rhone Valley and later working with Chuck Wagner at Caymus Vineyards. Naming his company Bacio Divino Cellars, Italian for divine kiss, Janzen creates uncommonly luscious blends and grew to fame with the unique Bacio Divino wine, featuring Cabernet Sauvignon blended with smaller portions of Sangiovese and Petit Sirah. Bacio Divino has garnered at least ten vintages with Robert Parker ratings of 90-plus. Other unique offerings include Pazzo (Sangiovese/Cab/Petit Sirah/Syrah/Viognier) and Vagabond (Syrah/Cab). Family-owned and managed, the winery now produces 8,000 cases annually. Nils and Kirk Venge work with Claus as winemaking and viticulture consultants. About Bacio Divino
We are a small family-owned winery. Located in the Napa Valley, which produces two very different proprietary red wine blends. Our primary wine is called 'Bacio Divino', and is a Cabernet Sauvignon blend incorporating smaller amounts of Sangiovese and Petit Sirah. A recent addition has been 'Pazzo', focusing more on Sangiovese, blended intimately with other varietals. Both wines are Napa Valley appellations.
