ONX Wine Petite Sirah |
2008 Black Orchid - Petite Sirah Briarwood Estate Vineyard
Hailing from the western edge of Briarwood, our Petite Sirah grows in a block of mixed soils that comprise both calcareous limestone and rocky alluvium. You can practically draw a line through the block where the soils are clearly defined on either side. Black Orchid is 100% estate-grown Petite Sirah and is exactly as its name implies, black. This wine is meant to display not only the powerful profile of the variety, but also the depth and complexity that it derives from our terroir. Hand picked in September, the fruit was de-stemmed, double sorted, then cold soaked for multiple days prior to fermentation. An additional 6 months of barrel aging helped to soften the tannins and improve oak integration. The end result is a deftly balanced wine with an inky profile and layers of fruit.
Jumping out of the glass with aromas of dark, ripe fruit and notes of tobacco leaf and cedar, this wine means business. The palate is layered with dark fruits and spice, reminiscent of olallieberry syrup and cloves. This wine is big, bold, and rich with inky phenolics and subtle undertones of soy. Black Orchid is the most muscular offering of our 2008 wines. |
