2000 Syrah, The Window
Red Car's debut release is called The Window. It is 100% Syrah blended from selected parcels of the San Marcos Vineyard in Paso Robles and the Colson Canyon Vineyard in Santa Maria. The San Marcos fruit was picked at 25.5 brix. It was practically bursting with wild blueberry, white pepper and hickory smoke. The Colson fruit came in at a lower 24 brix, but zesty and firm and with the snap of a fresh Gravenstein apple. The Window has loads of rich fruit, smoke and spice with a racy, bracing acidity. It is drinkable upon release but should evolve stylishly for 5 to 7 years. It spent a year in barrels made for the Grand Vin at Chateau Margaux.
